The Avon Alumni Association was founded in May 2010 by Nolan Andersky and Angela Berens. The idea came about when we saw that neighboring communities around us and across the state had formed well-structured, engaged, and influential organizations, built of alumni graduating from all years at the same high school. We thought that this was a necessity for Avon, especially as the community begins to grow even larger. The Avon Alumni Association will provide community involvement and a bridge to keep us connected to the community after we move on past the Avon school district. We plan to provide community service projects, such as an Alumni Homecoming Walk/Run, much like the Eagle Run in late spring or the Turkey Dash on Thanksgiving. As an addition to providing community service projects, we hope to provide various scholarships for seniors graduating from Avon High School. We plan to have alumni events where old friends can be reunited, new friendships can be made, and memories can be revisited. Alumni events include Annual/Semi-Annual banquets, spaghetti dinners, Family Day at the Cleveland Metroparks where alumni are encouraged to bring family members and new friends to meet old classmates, and much more. A seasonal newsletter will be developed and sent out to all registered members of the Avon Alumni Association. The newsletter will include updates on what is new with the city, the school district, and upcoming events. This will serve as a way to stay connected with our Alma Mater and hometown even if our lives take us elsewhere. As a chapter of the Avon Alumni Association, under the coordination of Angela Berens, the Avon Alumni Band will bring even more school spirit to the community at Homecoming each year. Playing along side the current students of Avon High School and Avon Middle School will be an everlasting experience for both alumni and students. The Avon Alumni Association is a way for graduated students of Avon High School to stay connected with their community, meet other graduates and current students of Avon High School, and most importantly, give back to the community that gave us so much opportunity and guidance as we grew up. As a member of the Inaugural Year of the Avon Alumni Association, we are all making history. We are forming a organization that will last a lifetime; an organization that will continue to grow and prosper. This is our chance to make a difference for the history of Avon High School and set the precedent for future generations to come and to aspire to be. Join us in this chance to influence the future of Avon. |
